they're on the run

Last night was our first night at the beach and the guard at the gate excitedly informed us it was the night of the grunion run. We went out to witness this odd intriguing mating ritual that follows the cycles of the moon. For those of you new to this, it's the night the little shiny silvery fish flop up on the beach, dig their back ends into the sand to lay eggs, then fling themselves out and flop back down to the water. IT WAS SO WEIRD AND TOTALLY GROSS.

(sorry for the poor lighting. it was very dark and we were lighting up the beach with a weak flashlight.)
