C.E.O. Brenden & his trusty assistant

Today Brenden was sick. I let him stay home from school for a half day. This is a rare and noteworthy occurence as I am not a very compassionate nurse and am not quick to give in to the requests to stay home from school. But he was coughing and we got the note home recently asking to keep them home when they are symptomatic so I gave in. He set himself up in the guest bedroom in front of the TV and all day long Oliver stayed by his side as his trusty assistant. Every so often Oliver would come down with a request: "Brenden would like some orange juice" or "Brenden would like the computer" or "Brenden needs a vitamin to get better." It was actually quite sweet.

p.s. Brenden did choose to go to the second half of the school day since I told him that if he didn't go to any school he couldn't go to any after-school activities. He has long been looking forward to going to Progressive Power Tumbling today, so he made a miraculous recovery after lunch.

"Hello,
This is Oliver from Brenden Wiley's office calling. Mr Wiley would like a laptop to play Webkinz on. Could you please deliver that to the guest room?"

Thank you,
Oliver Wiley

It's funny how you and Annee have different philosophies on letting kids stay home from school. You seem to be much stricter than she.

I'm not sure it really has much to do with strictness, but rather a deep reluctance to give up my time during the day while he's at school. Also, Scott is a little troubled by how much we used to miss school for seemingly small reasons, so he is a force for going when you can. Although he is also the more compassionate nurse in our house, so for the slightest sickness he would probably be willing to keep him home.

P.S. I am too strict. Just ask Henry if he gets to stay home whenever he wants. They stay home so often because of the darn snow.

Li'l ~j. came home early one day last week due to "sickness", but as soon as she got home I knew it wasn't really all that bad. She didn't complain, though, about having to put on her jammies and spend the rest of the day relaxing. Yesterday, however, she called me from school three times.

"Mom?"

"Yes."

"Um, hi. Um, Mom? Um, my ears make this noise when I yawn."

"Oh, really? Well, go back to class."

This is classic firstborn/secondborn stuff that also goes on with CEO Carter and his trusty sidekick, Chase. I wasn't like that to Jimmy. Were you to Annee? Just wondering if it is a siblings of the same sex thing?
